An independent studio for mechanical watches, honest repairs, and collector-level guidance

Average Watch is a small horology studio in Ipoh where movements are serviced by hand, straps are matched with care, and every piece that leaves the bench is tested for water resistance and accuracy. We work with established manufacturers and emerging microbrands, and we write plain-language guides for collectors who want to understand what they are buying.

  • Who we are Bench-trained watchmakers, not salespeople

Our team has spent years inside movements, not just behind display cases. We service automatic and quartz calibers, replace worn straps and crystals, and verify authenticity before a vintage piece changes hands.

  • Who we serve First-time buyers and seasoned collectors

Whether you are choosing your first mechanical watch or adding a rare 1960s chronograph to a serious collection, we give you the technical detail, honest condition reports, and maintenance advice you need to decide with confidence.

  • How we work Transparent diagnosis, documented service

Every repair starts with a written assessment. We explain what is worn, what can be saved, and what replacement parts are available. You approve the work before we touch the movement, and you get a service record with the finished piece.

  • What we stand for Patience over pressure, accuracy over hype

We do not push the latest limited edition or inflate condition grades. Our tone is calm and factual: we show you the movement, the case wear, and the service history, then let the watch speak for itself.

Trusted by the Trade

Independent watchmakers, parts suppliers, and collector circles rely on our bench for movement work and authenticity checks. These are the partnerships behind the pieces we service and sell.

From a Single Workbench to a Trusted Horology Studio

Average Watch began in 2012 as a modest repair bench in Ipoh, where the founder spent long evenings servicing Seiko and Citizen movements for local collectors. What started as a side practice grew into a full retail and restoration studio, driven by a simple belief: a well-maintained mechanical watch should outlive its first owner.

Today the studio balances three disciplines — precision repair, curated sales, and honest collector education. Every piece that leaves the bench is timed, pressure-tested, and documented, whether it is a 1960s dress watch or a modern microbrand diver.

2012

First Bench, First Rules

The studio opened with one workbench, a set of Bergeon screwdrivers, and a strict policy: no movement leaves without a full service record. Word spread through local watch clubs, and the repair list grew faster than expected.

2015

Authenticity Verification Added

Collectors kept asking whether their vintage purchases were genuine. We introduced dial, case, and movement verification for pre-owned pieces, which quickly became one of our most requested services.

2018

Retail Shelf for Microbrands

After years of repairs, we started stocking a small selection of independent microbrands. The focus was on honest specifications and reliable movements, not marketing hype. The shelf now holds twelve brands.

2021

Water Resistance Testing Rig

We invested in a proper pressure-testing unit, allowing us to certify watches to their rated depth. This was a turning point for servicing divers and sports watches, and it reduced return visits significantly.

2024

Collector Guides Go Public

Our internal maintenance notes were rewritten into public guides covering movement care, strap fitting, and vintage buying checks. The guides now reach readers across Malaysia and beyond.
